Donor-Advised Fund

A Donor-Advised Fund (DAF) is a charitable investment account held at a sponsoring public charity that allows you to make a contribution, receive an immediate tax deduction, and then recommend grants to ABRA and other IRS-qualified nonprofits over time. Contributions of cash, securities, or other assets to your DAF are generally tax-deductible in the year they are made, while the funds grow tax-free until you direct them to the causes you care about. To recommend a grant to ABRA through your DAF, you will typically need the following information:

Legal Name: Allegheny-Blue Ridge Alliance
Address:  PO Box 96, Monterey, VA 24465
Tax ID #: EIN: 82-1524592

Most DAF sponsors can locate us with that information, but your sponsoring organization may have additional instructions. If you have questions or need help navigating the process, please email us at dshaffer [at] abralliance [dot] org.

Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD)

If you are 70½ or older and have a traditional IRA, a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) offers a tax-efficient way to support ABRA. A QCD allows you to transfer funds — up to $111,000 per year — directly from your IRA to ABRA and other qualified 501(c)(3) nonprofits, without reporting the distribution as taxable income. This can be especially advantageous if you are subject to required minimum distributions (RMDs) but do not need the additional income, as it may help you avoid moving into a higher tax bracket or triggering phaseouts of other deductions. Note that QCDs apply only to IRAs, not to 401(k)s, 403(b)s, or donor-advised funds.

We recommend consulting your financial advisor to confirm a QCD is the right fit for your situation. To make a QCD to ABRA, instruct your IRA administrator to send the distribution directly to:

Legal Name: Allegheny-Blue Ridge Alliance
Address:  PO Box 96, Monterey, VA 24465
Tax ID #: EIN: 82-1524592

If you have questions, please email us at dshaffer [at] abralliance [dot] org.

Gifts of Appreciated Stock

Donating appreciated stock or other securities is one of the most tax-effective ways to support ABRA. When you donate stock directly rather than selling it first, neither you nor ABRA pays capital gains tax on the appreciation — meaning ABRA receives the full market value of your gift, and you are eligible for a charitable deduction for that same amount. To transfer securities to ABRA, please provide your broker with the following information:

Edward Jones, DTC# 0057
ABRA Account Number: 5902605210
FBO: Allegheny-Blue Ridge Alliance.

If mailing a physical securities certificate, send it to:

Edward Jones
Attn: Security Processing
PO Box 66906,
St. Louis, MO 63166-6906.

If possible, please give us a heads-up that your gift is on the way by emailing us at dshaffer [at] abralliance [dot] org — it helps us acknowledge your generosity promptly.

Other Ways to Give

For information on other ways to give, such as wiring, donating mutual funds, or if your broker or IRA custodian needs additional information, please see these Delivery Instructions from Edward Jones. If you need additional help, please reach out to our broker, Laura Lee Scott, directly at (434) 812-3293.

ABRA greatly appreciates the continued support of individuals and communities across the Allegheny-Blue Ridge region! Thank you!
